If you’ve spent any amount of time on social media, you’ve probably become quite familiar with the term “Fandom”. More than ever before people are connecting over the things they love to talk about. Have you ever “geeked out” over something? You know; became so excited about what was happening with your favorite character or team or the latest tech that you just had to share it with anyone who would listen. Many times we can be stopped in our tracks by just a image of the things we admire.
Martin Luther King Jr said, “If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as a Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, ‘Here lives a great street sweeper who did his job well.”
Mr. King brings to light an interesting concept. Do God and all the heavenly hosts ever become so interested in something they see in us that they would stop all their work to admire it? Could God possibly “geek out” over us? Who’s fandom would He be a part of?
God knows that only some things last for all eternity. A “lowly” street sweeper may not get the attention of people magazine, but God sees what others do not. You may not be a Master of Time and Space, the fastest driver who ever lived or the MVP of your league, but those are not the qualities that catch God’s eye. A man (or woman), performing his craft at maximum potential, glorifying the One who is responsible for the craftsman’s very existence – this person is the one that catches God’s eye.
Nothing gets God’s attention like his creation seeking his face. Are you catching God’s eye or is He “geeking out” over the person next to you that was just a little too boring for you to notice?
